History of the Friends of MNAC
In 1996 the Centre of Diffusion and Public Projection was created in the MNAC, one of the objectives of which consisted in the putting in motion the Friends of MNAC, with aim of fostering participation of civil society in the life of the museum and thereby bring more dynamism to the museum institution.
Initially, the Friends of MNAC was created as an organization without a distinct legal standing. However decision to transform it into a legally constituted organization become stronger as the group continued to grow and become more consolidated. It began to organize activities, such as conferences, courses, trips, etc. with the aim of spreading awareness of the heritage that the Museum preserves.
Later, in early 1998, a working commission of twelve members was formed to undertake a project of creating statutes for a future association and a promotional commission of activities in collaboration with the Museum.
On 14 December 2000, the statutes of the Friends of MNAC Association were approved and the first Board of Directors was formed, whose president was Ms. Anina de Montoliu.
Two years later, on 2 December 2002, a new election of the Board of Directors was held and Ms. Maria Reig Moles was chosen as president of the organization.
The General Assembly of the Association, which was held on 14 March 2005, saw the creation of a new Board of Directors and Mr. Miquel Roca i Junyent was named as president.
Lastly, at the most recent General Assembly of the Friends of MNAC, held on 8 March 2006, the decision was taken to adopt the legal form of a Foundation, without modifying the nature of its activities and with the end of becoming a more effective instrument to realize to the goal of fortify the artistic depth of the MNAC and to expand its activities.
