I am always moved by the Virgin of the Angels by Pere Serra, a panel which was originally part of an altarpiece. I like it because it is a sweet, refined work from the Italian-style Catalan Gothic painting of the 14th century, with rich colours and the gilding on the frame and halos of the celestial figures, typical of the period, along with the intense, deep sea blue reserved for the Virgin’s mantle. This work evokes harmony and serenity in me, with charming musical angels who really seem to be playing music, giving me the magical illusion that I can even hear their melody.

Can you hear it too?
